DIY Dough Fridge Magnets April 7, 2014 – Posted in: DIY – Tags: cape town, DIY, dough magnets, fridge magnets, zana
I am constantly putting things on my fridge, I have a fridge (outside) hoarding problem – it is currently covered in printed Instagrams, special photos and yes fridge magnets. So I when I saw this lovely recipe on Nikki’s blog and grabbed some inspiration from the pottery class we have been doing, I thought why not give magnet making a bash! This is how I did it and how it all turned out.
Pre warnings; this can get very messy.
1 Cup Flour
1/2 Cup Salt
1/2 Cup Water
Mix it all together in a big bowl.
I separated my mixture into 3 bowls where I added one drop of food colouring and mixed it in (definitely works your wrists!)
Roll your colours out flat onto wax paper – tip, use flower on your roller.
Use a knife to carve your shapes.
Here are all the shapes I carved, bare in mind some will fail.
Peel away the dough from around your shapes, slowly does it. Then disguard the flops and do what I did and mix the ‘off-cuts’ into random rainbow blobs. Making shapes by hand is also an option! Place them on wax paper on a baking tray and bake on a low heat for around 30 minutes.
When they are done baking (note, they dont have to be 100% dry yet, they will air dry further with time) choose how you wish to decorate. I used a marker to decorate some and made some evil eyes.
I then super glued magnets onto the back. Tip, buy strong magnets, the ornaments can be heavy!
You are then good to go!
